Curly Hair Artistry Celebrations

Good day everyone.

1 - I wanted to celebrate a new curly hair specialist in Azerbaijan who is the FIRST curly hair specialist in her country! Congratulations to Aysel Jamalzad  (click for Instagram profile) who completed all of the requirements of Curly Hair Artistry Mastery Program to be listed on our Stylist Locator. The work of Cubist Curl Cutting and guiding her clients with The MAP Method shows in all she is doing in her recent work.

2 - I also wanted to share a celebration of a recent transformation from Curly Hair Artistry specialist Bobbie Hall (Facebook link) in Texas (Stylist Locator)  - in her own words, "I must tell you about this sweet soul. We met in passing when I couldn't help but stop them to compliment the curls! I was shocked when they actually reached out a few months later. She's about to start hybrid high school and really wanted to get her hair looking right before her first day. She saved her own earnings to pay for the...

Learning about Self Care through Wavy & Curly Hair.

Good day everyone.

Just a note for you on what we are learning about taking care of yourself that goes along with caring for your wavy/curly hair.

Self Care is so important.

It is part of my own personal vocabulary to understand myself better as 'self care' was not really on my radar. Over time it just faded away and I was wondering why I wanted to check out or even just give up at times.

Maybe you can relate - or if you are on a path of self care now then reply back with how you are caring for yourself with tips that can be used in another blog for helping others in the near future.

As a curly hair specialist - or as other people in service industries do with always putting other people above themselves - can lead to burn out or a sense of not caring anymore - it's so important to learn to step back and learn to find things to renew yourself so that you remain passionate to continue - not just for others- but for an invigorating LIFE.

I learned to time block...

Wavy Hair - Cultivate Your Curls

There was a great question that popped up in our Cultivate Your Curls private Facebook community and wanted to share it with you for your consideration and learning of what is possible for your own wavy/curly hair.

Celeste asked me a great question:

Scott Musgrave I hope you are doing okay through Florence. I don't expect an answer right away, I'm not sure if you have power... Anyway, I've been curious about something. You mention that you can use the same 4 products one very client and have good results. I'm sure you also do this for yourself, and I'm wondering if the products ever stop working for you? Do you have to rotate any of them? It seems like I have great results with new products for a week or two and then it goes down hill. I detox and still have problems. I think it might be my protein/moisture balance. I could probably use a good non-protein filler. I just got LHDC for a non-protein conditioner. Curious on your thoughts? You mentioned we have similar hair...

How Do You See Yourself?

As I work with my clients in my chair and on my online course Cultivate Your Curls w/ The MAP Method I realize the journey many of us are on and find it fascinating what we can pursue what is reality based or fantasy based....or even more. We are putting our energy into 'something' and the goal of this article is to see what we are doing is contributing to something that is of value.

Lets take a peek at what resides in our being - this is based on a writing example I learned years ago:

There are four levels of an individual self:

The Public Self: This is the level that you communicate to the world.

The Private Self: This is the emotional and internal world of an individual.

The Fantasy Self: This level is where daydreams, night dreams and fantasies reside.

The Ideal Self: This fourth and final level of self wants perfection.

Curly Hair Artistry - What Makes Us Unique?

One thing I have noticed in our industry that is different and determines the success of your business is not being considered much and that is the power and voice of your client.

For people with wavy/curly hair - the 'consumer' - the 'client' - is over-riding our industry with knowing how to work with their hair. Yup - read that one again.

There are so many communities, website forums, Facebook groups/pages, Instagram influencers and local meet ups that have been created and perfected based on one thing: LACK OF SERVICE & HELP FOR WHAT THEY DESIRE.

Lack of service to help and serve them has driven the desire for help and shifted this from hairstylist/salon to EACH OTHER.

Let me explain a bit - I noticed that I was learning EVERYDAY a lot of great tips from my clients that sat in my chair. I noticed that other stylists - that did this as well - had a deep passion for serving and assisting others that was different than brand based knowledge or from the...
